Argot is the secret bar in Campo dei Fiori, Rome
The term argot refers to the secret slang, spoken by thieves and beggars in the Parisian Courts of Miracles in the 1600s. Inspired by the inns where the bandit fraternity gathered, Argot recreates that atmosphere of conviviality, hospitality and intimacy, cloaked in a veil of mystery.
Open since 2014, Argot in nestled in the heart of Rome. The entrance, with no sign, is hidden in Campo dei Fiori, on via dei Cappellari, behind a small door that can barely be seen.
Unlike speakeasies that hark back to the American prohibitionism of the 1920s, Argot is inspired by salon settings. The interior is divided into two rooms, one of which is used for concerts, with a beautiful piano. Arches, exposed brickwork, vintage and one-of-a-kind furnishings, warm lighting: at Argot you feel at home.
